Curriculum

The preschool program is the first school experience for most of our students.  Our program focuses on hands-on, multi-sensory learning experiences that promote growth in the areas of gross and fine motor skills, language development, preliminary academic skills, and social interaction.  Children are read to daily and a strong emphasis is placed on the development of early phonics skills.  Children are introduced to the world of mathematics through the Touchmath program, a fun, hands - on curriculum that builds preliminary skills and lays the framework for future academic study.  Science and social studies are presented using an interactive theme based approach.  Our preschool program reflects a balance of structured activities coupled with time for free play where students can learn through peer interaction.  In addition, preschoolers also enjoy physical education, Spanish, art, music, and computer classes.

The elementary curriculum centers around language rich, hands-on, inquiry based learning activities that provide students with opportunities to develop and improve skills in language arts, math, science, and social studies.  Integration of subject matter, an integral component of our program, is used to make learning more meaningful to our students.  Students gain confidence and proficiency in reading and writing through a literature based reading program and writers’ workshop.   Mathematics skills are acquired and reinforced through exploration and hands-on activities using The Everyday Mathematics Program which stresses the development of problem solving and critical thinking skills.  Students also participate in physical education, art, Spanish, music, and computer classes.

The middle school program focuses on developing independent and responsible students who take an active role in their learning.  The language arts curriculum concentrates on refining reading comprehension, vocabulary,  and critical thinking skills and on exposing students to a wide variety of literature.  Students read and interpret plays, short stories, novels, and poetry.  In mathematics students are introduced to pre-algebra and algebra with the focus on problem solving and the application of concepts to everyday situations.  Middle school students continue to benefit from art, music, Spanish, physical education, and computer instruction.
